The body of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant Tausif Souri was recovered from the Tongi Bandar Ghat area on Wednesday (October 28) afternoon, with authorities suspecting drowning as the preliminary cause of death.
However, the exact cause of death has yet to be known and will be confirmed after an autopsy, said officials.
Constable Rakib, who is on duty at the Naval Police control room, confirmed the matter.
A team from the Naval Police retrieved the body after receiving information through the national emergency helpline 999.
The body has been kept at the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College in Dhaka for an autopsy.
Tausif’s identity was established after his mobile phone and wristwatch were recovered.
Authorities have yet to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. While drowning is being considered a preliminary possibility, the autopsy report is expected to provide further clarity.
