A former officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station, Biplob Kumar Nath, and sub-inspector Ismail Hossain have been sent to jail in a case over the alleged murder of BNP leader Moshiar Rahman in Magura.

The two were produced before Shalikha Amli Court on Wednesday (October 28). The court rejected their bail petitions and ordered them sent to jail. They were arrested on Tuesday night while serving in the Barishal River Police.

According to the case, the two officers allegedly picked up Moshiar from his home in Shalikha on February 15, 2015, and shot him dead, later reporting the incident as a 'crossfire'.

Moshiar's wife, Hasina Begum, filed the murder case on October 1, 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government. The investigation officer said preliminary questioning had yielded important information, which is being verified.

Other allegations of killings and extortion against the officers have not been independently verified.
