Sher-e-Bangla Univ students vandalise fair stalls demanding recovery of field

Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) vandalised a gate and several stalls set up for the Asia International Fair in the capital’s Agargaon area on Wednesday, demanding the recovery of the university’s former trade fair ground.

The students gathered in front of the university’s flag stand before marching to the old trade fair ground, where they staged a demonstration and chanted slogans demanding that the field be returned to the university.

The protest later escalated, with some students damaging the fair’s entrance gate and stalls.

One student said they had asked the fair organisers on Tuesday to relocate the event and given them a deadline to do so, but no progress had been made.

“We will continue our movement until we get our field back,” the student said.

Contacted over the incident, fair organiser Mohammad Jahangir Islam said they would arrange to remove the gate immediately.
