Bangladesh safely navigated the opening session of the Mirpur Test against West Indies, reaching 96 for 2 in 29 overs before the lunch break.

Host captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first. The Tigers faced an early setback when opener Tanjid Hasan fell for 7 off 23 balls, edging a Jayden Seales delivery to the slips with just 9 runs on the board.

Sadman Islam and Mominul Haque stabilized the innings with a 59-run partnership for the second wicket. Mominul looked comfortable before miscuing a Jomel Warrican delivery to Alzarri Joseph at mid-off after scoring 28 off 51 balls.

Sadman remained steady, going into the lunch break unbeaten on 40, alongside skipper Shanto who was on 12.

Bangladesh handed a place in the playing XI to Towhid Hridoy in place of injured veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, who missed out due to a minor injury sustained ahead of the match. The home side fielded a balanced bowling attack comprising two pacers, Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud, alongside three specialist spinners.

West Indies handed a Test debut to left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop, featuring in a bowling lineup that includes Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph, and Jomel Warrican, alongside spin-allrounder Roston Chase.
