Customs seizes 461,000 fake banderol cigarettes

The Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate has seized 461,000 sticks of cigarettes bearing counterfeit tax banderols, valued at approximately Tk 27.66 lakh, during simultaneous raids across Chakaria, Sadar, and Hnila of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.

The Cox's Bazar Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate confirmed the seizure in a press release issued on Wednesday (October 28) following preventive drives conducted by three separate operational teams.

According to customs authorities, the seized cigarettes, branded under the name "Marble", were produced by Heritage Tobacco. Investigators are currently probing whether the manufacturing company was directly involved in using the forged tax stamps or if illegal manufacturing units exist in the region.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials reaffirmed that anti-smuggling and anti-evasion operations will continue to prevent tax fraud and protect state revenue.
