Cyclone Arnab over the west-central Bay of Bengal has rapidly intensified into a powerful Category 4-equivalent hurricane strength storm, packing 1-minute sustained wind speeds of 215 km/h with gusts expanding up to 260 km/h, according to satellite monitoring and global tracking data from Zoom Earth.

The high-intensity cyclonic system is moving west-northwestward at a speed of 17 to 22 km/h across the ocean. Over the next six hours, it is projected to maintain its current peak intensity or slightly strengthen as it progresses westward before making a gradual turn toward the north-northwest.

According to satellite imagery and orbital trajectory forecasts, the eyewall of Cyclone Arnab is expected to cross the northern coast of Andhra Pradesh—between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, near Yanam—between late Tuesday midnight and Wednesday afternoon (October 28).

Meteorologists emphasize that Cyclone Arnab poses no direct threat of landfall or destructive hurricane-force winds to Bangladesh.

However, peripheral cloud bands and wind circulation will trigger rainfall, cloudy skies, and turbulent sea conditions across Bangladesh’s coastal regions and maritime ports over the next 48 hours. Maritime ports in the country remain under precautionary advisory warnings as high waves and squally weather persist over the Bay of Bengal.

Meanwhile, central and state emergency management agencies in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have issued high alerts along the eastern coast of India. Authorities have suspended fishing operations, closed coastal educational institutions, and deployed emergency response forces ahead of the storm's anticipated landfall.
