Winter conditions have begun setting in across Panchagarh, Bangladesh's northernmost district bordering the Himalayas, with the mercury dropping nearly one degree Celsius within a 24-hour period.
The Tentulia Meteorological Office recorded the season's lowest temperature in the district at 15.4 degrees Celsius at 9:00 AM on Tuesday (October 27). Morning air relative humidity was registered at 99 per cent amid light fog.
On Monday (October 26) at 3:00 PM, the district recorded a peak daytime temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius. Despite mild daytime sunshine, temperatures fall rapidly after sunset, accompanied by cool northerly winds and evening fog.
Jitendranath Roy, Officer-in-Charge of the Tentulia Meteorological Office, stated that clear skies over recent days have allowed cold air from the Himalayas to lower regional temperatures. He added that following the passage of an expected rain-bearing weather system between October 31 and November 1, cold conditions across the district are likely to intensify further.
