Defence ministers from France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the UK are meeting in Paris on Monday (October 26) to discuss additional military aid for Ukraine, European defence cooperation and the Middle East conflict amid escalating Russia-Ukraine attacks.
Russian strikes injured four people in Zaporizhzhia and two in Chernihiv, while a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Voronezh killed two people and wounded 17, including passengers on a commuter train hit by falling debris.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces targeted Ukrainian energy facilities, port infrastructure and a cargo vessel near Odesa, which it claimed was being used for military purposes.
The five European powers previously pledged continued support for Kyiv at a meeting in Berlin in June.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia must stop attacking Ukraine’s power infrastructure if Kyiv is to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries. He also called for additional US support, including Patriot missiles or Starshield capabilities.
Separately, Ukrainian, Russian and US negotiators are expected to meet in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November.
