Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is facing growing uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford following his side's 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, with club officials reportedly considering a managerial change.
United suffered a helpless surrender at Old Trafford on Sunday (October 25), as goals from Ryan Christie, Marcus Tavernier, and Evanilson sealed a resounding victory for the visitors. The defeat extended United's winless streak in the Premier League to eight matches, leaving them precariously positioned just above the relegation zone with only seven points from eight games.
Last season, Carrick guided United to a third-place finish after taking charge. However, the team has managed only two victories across 12 matches in all competitions this campaign. The heavy defeat to Bournemouth, coming on the heels of a 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League, has significantly intensified pressure on the manager.
Carrick also faced criticism for leaving captain Bruno Fernandes out of the starting lineup. The Portuguese midfielder had publicly questioned the team's tactics following the defeat against Como, though Carrick explained omitting Fernandes as a "purely tactical decision."
Speaking after the match, the United coach could not guarantee his future, stating, "The situation is difficult, there is no denying that. I don't know what will happen next. I will continue working normally. I love this club and am aware of my responsibilities. Now we have to wait."
According to The Guardian, senior club officials are discussing whether to dismiss Carrick, with former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe emerging as a potential candidate. However, no final decision regarding Carrick's dismissal has been officially announced.
