Observer Online Report

Islamic preacher Rafiqul Islam Madani was targeted by robbers while returning home from a religious gathering in Cumilla on Sunday night.

The incident took place in the Pakunda area on the Asian Highway in Sonargaon of Narayanganj, as he was returning after attending a waz mahfil.

However, nothing was stolen from him, Madani said, during a Facebook Live broadcast. He appealed for help during the live session.

Madani said, the robbers placed large stones on the road to force vehicles to slow down before robbing passengers. He said his vehicle was at some distance from the robbers, allowing him to escape. The robbers were carrying machetes and fled after taking money from the driver of another vehicle, he added.

He also said they escaped because his driver turned the vehicle around after spotting the robbers.

Officer-in-Charge of Sonargaon Police Station Mohammad Abdul Barik said, police were taking the incident seriously and working to arrest those involved.
