Garment workers of 'Lucky Star' factory blocked a road in Gazipur's Tongi on Monday, demanding payment of their outstanding wages, disrupting traffic in the area.
The workers began protesting in the morning after refusing to join work. They later took to a nearby regional road and blocked it, bringing vehicular movement to a halt.
The workers alleged that the factory had been shut down without prior notice and without paying their outstanding wages.
According to them, their wages were scheduled to be paid on October 13. However, the payment deadline was postponed several times, leaving them without their dues.
The workers said they arrived at the factory on Monday morning as usual, only to find a closure notice posted at the main gate. They alleged that the management had not informed them in advance about the shutdown.
Multiple attempts to reach the factory’s admin manager, Md Fazle Azim, on his mobile phone to get his comments proved unsuccessful, as he did not respond.
Industrial police were deployed to maintain order and bring the situation under control.
Manzur Haque, officer in-charge of the industrial police, said efforts were underway to resolve the dispute through discussions with both the workers and the factory owners.
''Discussions are ongoing with the workers and the owners to find a solution to the problem.''
