Mother, son killed in road accident

A woman and her four-year-old son were killed after a pickup truck hit their motorcycle while they were returning home after taking the child to a doctor in Jashore's Manirampur upazila on Sunday evening.

The deceased were identified as Mousumi, 32, and her son Abdur Rahman. They were residents of Hanuar village in the upazila. Mousumi's husband is Omar Faruk.

The accident occurred around 6:00 PM on the Jashore-Rajganj road in the Taltala area.

According to Rajganj Police Outpost, Mousumi had taken her son to Jashore for medical treatment. They were returning home on a motorcycle operated for hire when a fish-laden pickup truck hit it from behind.

The motorcycle rider and the two passengers were injured in the accident. Local residents rescued them and took them to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital, but the mother and son died before reaching the hospital.

Emergency department physician Rajib Ray Chowdhury said both victims had head injuries and were dead before they were brought to the hospital.
