A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a cyclonic storm on Monday, with the possibility of becoming a very severe cyclonic storm before crossing India's Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The department has advised Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports to keep hoisting distant warning signal No. 1 as the sea remains rough.
In its special weather bulletin No. 3 issued on Sunday evening, the department said the depression over the east-central and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal had intensified into a deep depression.
At noon on Sunday, the system was located 810 kilometres south of Chattogram Port, 730 kilometres south of Cox's Bazar Port, 840 kilometres south of Mongla Port and 780 kilometres south of Payra Port.
The deep depression may move south-westwards and intensify further before changing direction towards the west-north-west, the bulletin said.
Maximum sustained winds near its centre were reaching 50 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 60 kilometres per hour.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal have been advised to move cautiously and remain close to the coast until further notice.
