Buddhist devotees in Rangamati celebrated Probarona Purnima, one of their major religious festivals, with solemnity, devotion, and prayers for global peace at the historic Rajban Vihara on Sunday (October 25).
The monastery grounds saw a turnout of devotees participating in religious rituals, including Buddha Puja, lamp lighting, taking the Five Precepts (Pancha Sila), Sanghadana, and listening to religious discourses.
Probarona Purnima marks the conclusion of the three-month rain retreat (Vassa) for Buddhist monks, which begins on Ashari Purnima. The day highlights self-purification, restraint, forgiveness, non-violence, and mutual tolerance.
Delivering the religious discourse, the principal of Rajban Vihara, Srimat Pragyalankar Mahathero, prayed for the happiness, peace, and prosperity of all communities while urging people to abandon hatred and foster mutual harmony.
"On this auspicious occasion of Probarona Purnima, I call upon all citizens to live in peace and happiness through forgiveness and brotherhood," he said.
Alongside the daylong religious rituals, traditional celebrations will conclude in the evening with the releasing of colorful sky lanterns (Fanush).
