Police have solved the murder of Jubo Mahila League leader Dalia Akter Suma, 50, recovering her slit-throat body from her flat in South Keraniganj and arresting three suspects involved in the killing.

Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police Torikul Islam detailed the findings during a press conference held at South Keraniganj Police Station on Sunday (October 25) morning.

Police revealed that the suspects broke into the residence to commit burglary, but fatally stabbed and slit Dalia's throat after she recognized them and raised an alarm, fearing exposure.

The arrested suspects were identified as Md Ashik, 23, Md Alamgir Hossain, 36, and Md Onik, 19, all hailing from Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj.

According to police, the homicide occurred on Friday (October 23) inside Dalia’s third-floor flat at Sweden Plaza in the Rasulpur Bazar area of South Keraniganj. Investigators identified the suspects using CCTV footage, intelligence data, and information technology.

Drive teams under the direction of Dhaka District Superintendent of Police Shamima Parvin first apprehended Onik in the Balurchar area of Sirajdikhan. Based on information obtained from Onik, police subsequently raided Abdullahpur Bazar in South Keraniganj to arrest Ashik and Alamgir.

During primary interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. Knowing Dalia kept her door unlocked in the morning for her domestic help, they entered the residence via an adjacent rooftop. Upon being discovered and recognized by Dalia, they launched the fatal attack before fleeing in disguise.

The victim's daughter filed a murder case with South Keraniganj Police Station. The three suspects have been produced before court, and investigations remain ongoing.
