Observer Online Report

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a change in the national team batting coach position, effectively removing Mohammad Ashraful from the role and initiating talks with prominent international figures, including former South African batter Hashim Amla.

BCB issued a press release on Saturday night (October 24) confirming the positional change, despite Ashraful working with national batters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium earlier in the day.

The official statement confirmed that Ashraful will no longer serve as national team batting coach, ruling him out for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies starting October 28 in Mirpur.

While BCB has not provided immediate details regarding Ashraful's future role within the board's setup—such as potential reassignment to age-group teams, High Performance (HP) units, or other developmental programs—sources within the Cricket Operations Committee confirmed that search efforts for a high-profile replacement are underway.

BCB Cricket Operations sources revealed that the board is actively seeking an internationally reputed former cricketer with proven coaching credentials who understands modern batting techniques.

A senior BCB official confirmed discussions with former South African star Hashim Amla, alongside several other established coaches, particularly with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

The official noted that while multiple South African candidates are under consideration due to the location of the next World Cup, BCB remains open to experienced options from the subcontinent as well, with an official appointment expected shortly.
