The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting has been postponed due to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's scheduled official visit to Japan, delaying the approval process for 15 development projects involving nearly Tk 9,000 crore.
The meeting was scheduled to take place on Sunday morning (October 25) at the NEC Conference Room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar under the chair of Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarique Rahman.
Although official notifications cited "unavoidable circumstances" for the postponement, Planning Commission officials confirmed that the decision was finalized late last night in view of the Prime Minister's departure for Japan.
According to Planning Commission sources, the Prime Minister is scheduled to board an evening flight to Japan today. Prior to his departure, he needed to clear several crucial official files. As an ECNEC meeting would not have concluded before lunch, authorities decided to defer the sitting.
A total of 15 development projects with an estimated cost of around Tk 9,000 crore were prepared for presentation at Sunday's meeting.
Key projects awaiting approval included the drilling of two appraisal and development gas wells—Titas-32 and Titas-33—in the Titas Gas Field, alongside the 'Innovation Climate-Smart Urban Development' project and the establishment of Netrokona University.
Other major projects on the agenda included safe water supply and sanitation schemes in the Barendra region, as well as road, drainage, and sidewalk repair works under the Dhaka South City Corporation.
In addition, two projects for procuring specialized and operational vehicles to enhance Bangladesh Police capabilities and a project to establish nuclear medicine centers at five medical colleges were fully prepared for presentation.
