Reports that police were conducting an operation to arrest Shahjalal Rumi, a guardian who drew attention for slapping a madrasa teacher accused of sexually abusing a seven-year-old child in Tongi of Gazipur are completely misleading, said Rashed Khan, political assistant to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He made the remarks in a Facebook post on Saturday night (October 24).
In the post, Rashed Khan said, he had spoken to the Gazipur police commissioner, who confirmed that police had neither decided to arrest Rumi nor conducted any operation to apprehend him.
He also said, the government had not advised police to arrest Rumi.
Rashed Khan added that some media outlets had published misleading reports about an operation to arrest Shahjalal Rumi.
