Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to leave Dhaka for Tokyo at 12:10 AM on Sunday on a four-day official visit to strengthening bilateral ties, boosting investment and expanding economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Japan.

On the second day of the visit, Tuesday (October 27), Tarique Rahman is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart in Tokyo.

The talks are expected to review existing cooperation between the two countries and explore ways to further expand economic ties. The prime minister will also deliver the keynote address at the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Forum and meet Japanese business leaders.

The visit may also include meetings with senior officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.

The prime minister is also scheduled to visit an LNG terminal, a power plant, the headquarters of Uniqlo and a Toyota factory.

Increasing Japanese investment in Bangladesh, creating new employment opportunities and accelerating the implementation of ongoing development projects are among the key priorities of the visit.

Implementation of the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), signed in February 2026, is also expected to feature prominently in the discussions. The agreement is expected to create opportunities to expand bilateral trade and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam said, memorandums of understanding or announcements on cooperation could be made in several areas, including agriculture, fisheries, skills development, trade, environmental conservation and modernization of local government systems.

Alongside bilateral economic cooperation, the two sides may discuss regional and international issues, including the Rohingya crisis, energy security, and regional and global peace and stability.

Officials concerned believe the visit could further deepen the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Japan while opening up new avenues for investment, trade and development cooperation.
