The ninth meeting of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Amendment of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad is currently underway.
The meeting commenced at 11:00 AM on Saturday (October 24) at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Chaired by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, who heads the committee, the meeting is being attended by top legal experts of the country. The experts are offering legal opinions and recommendations focused on comprehensive constitutional reform, strengthening democratic institutions, and drafting a globally acceptable set of amendments.
According to sources close to the committee, discussions are centered on advancing the constitutional amendment process by prioritizing the full implementation of the "July National Charter," framed in the wake of the 2024 student-led mass uprising.
In line with the spirit of the uprising, the meeting is also deliberating on necessary constitutional changes to ensure legal protection and constitutional recognition for those martyred and injured during the movement.
Furthermore, legal experts are providing inputs on ensuring the complete independence of the judiciary, defining its jurisdiction, and reintroducing the referendum system to reflect public expectations in key state decision-making processes.
