Afghanistan clinched the tri-nation ODI series title unbeaten after thrashing Zimbabwe by seven wickets with 93 balls to spare in the final.
Chasing a modest target of 170, Afghanistan made a strong start through Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, who added 68 runs off 58 balls. Gurbaz departed for 36 off 31 balls, while Sediqullah Atal was dismissed for six.
Zimbabwe left-arm pacer Newman Nyamhuri claimed both wickets, leaving Afghanistan at risk after losing two wickets for 12 runs. However, Zadran and Rahmat Shah steadied the innings and guided the team towards victory.
Rahmat Shah scored 43 before falling with Afghanistan just eight runs away from the target. Zadran remained unbeaten on 70 to complete the comfortable win.
Earlier, Zimbabwe struggled against Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 169 in 43.3 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Friday.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza top-scored with 68, but received little support from the other batters. Only four Zimbabwean players managed to reach double figures as the team came under pressure from the start.
Zimbabwe lost three wickets for just 26 runs, with Tadiwanashe Marumani scoring 12, Brian Bennett nine and Tashinga Musekiwa four.
Brendan Taylor was run out for seven after adding 29 runs with Raza. Ryan Burl then joined the captain and helped rebuild the innings, contributing 31 runs in a 50-run partnership. Raza completed his half-century during the stand before Burl departed, leaving Zimbabwe at 115 for five.
Raza subsequently watched Wesley Madhevere (3), Brad Evans (1) and Newman Nyamhuri (0) return to the pavilion. He was eventually dismissed for 68, including three fours and three sixes, off Rashid Khan’s bowling, with Zimbabwe losing their ninth wicket at 137.
Blessing Muzarabani and Wellington Masakadza added 32 runs for the final wicket, offering some late resistance. However, Masakadza was dismissed for eight, bringing Zimbabwe’s innings to an end at 169. Muzarabani remained unbeaten on 17.
Rashid Khan was Afghanistan’s leading bowler with three wickets, while Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mohammad Nabi and Bilal Sami claimed two wickets each. Azmatullah Omarzai took one wicket.
