Japan is planning to invest 1 trillion yen, or around $6.35 billion, in Bangladesh's private sector over the next five years, Japanese media outlet Nikkei Asia reported.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Japan this month and meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The proposed investment is expected to be included in a joint statement following the meeting.
The investment will focus on automobiles, manufacturing and energy infrastructure, according to the report.
Several Japanese companies are expected to explore opportunities in the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone, developed through a joint initiative involving Japanese trading giant Sumitomo Corporation and other partners.
The investment could help attract Japanese capital, boost industrial production, diversify manufacturing and strengthen Bangladesh's energy infrastructure.
