The Chhatra-Janata Sangram Parishad has announced a half-day road and waterway blockade in Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts for Saturday (October 24), protesting alleged attacks, baton charges, and vandalism of homes and shops during a blockade program in Sajek.
The organization announced the program through a press release sent to the media on Thursday (October 22) afternoon.
According to the statement, the blockade has been called to express solidarity with the rightful demands of Sajek residents and to protest the attack and vandalism carried out on a peaceful road blockade program, which had been called demanding the removal of armed members of the JSS (Santu group) from Sajek.
Usaton Chakma, President of the organization, stated in the release that the blockade will be observed on roads and waterways across Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday. He sought the cooperation of all democratic and progressive organizations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, as well as vehicle owners' and workers' associations in both districts, to make the program successful.
However, emergency vehicles including ambulances, patient-carrying vehicles, hearses, fire service units, emergency medicine supply vans, and vehicles carrying journalists will remain exempt from the blockade.
