Young woman drowns in Pond

A 23-year-old woman drowned in a pond in the Tambulkhana area under Kotwali Police Station in Faridpur Sadar upazila on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 11:45 AM on October 22.

The deceased was identified as Afroza Begum, daughter of Amin Sheikh of the Tambulkhana area.

According to family sources, Afroza went to a pond beside her house in the morning to wash utensils. At one point, she accidentally fell into the water and drowned.

When family members could not find her, they began searching for her.

Later, they became suspicious after finding her utensils lying beside the pond. Local residents then searched the pond and rescued her.

She was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where the emergency department's on-duty physician declared her dead at around 12:30 PM.

Confirming the incident, Mahmudul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, said, police had been sent to the hospital after receiving the news.

He added that preparations were underway to file an unnatural death case and that necessary legal steps would be taken.
