Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc created history by becoming the first left-arm bowler in the 149-year history of Test cricket to reach 450 wickets.
The 36-year-old pacer achieved the milestone on the third day of the Test match against South Africa in Gqeberha after dismissing Wiaan Mulder. With this feat, Starc surpassed legendary left-arm bowlers Wasim Akram of Pakistan (414 wickets) and Rangana Herath of Sri Lanka (433 wickets).
Starc also set a world record as the fastest bowler to reach 450 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled, taking 20,577 deliveries to reach the mark. He broke the previous record held by Australian fast-bowling icon Glenn McGrath, who reached the milestone in 23,474 balls—2,897 more than Starc.
With this accomplishment, Starc became only the fourth Australian bowler to claim 450 Test wickets, joining Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, and Nathan Lyon in the elite group.
