A class six schoolgirl abducted in Madhabpur of Habiganj has still not been rescued a month on, and her father has demanded the arrest of the accused and her quick recovery.

The girl’s father, Nur Ali, made the demand. The girl’s family said a gang picked her up in a vehicle on the morning of September 17, on her way to school. It happened near the graveyard in Baneshwar village of the upazila.

Nur Ali filed a missing persons diary with Madhabpur Police Station on September 19. A case was later filed in court on charges of violence against women and kidnapping.

The accused are Ujjal Mia, son of Elam Mia; Shuvo Mia, son of Shah Alam Mia; Elam Mia, son of late Arju Mia; and Shah Alam Mia, son of late Nur Islam. All are from Joyalbhanga village of Andiura Union.

In the case statement, the complainant alleged that the accused forced his schoolgirl daughter into a vehicle, took her to an unknown place and tortured her.

The family said the court has issued arrest warrants against the accused.

“A month has passed since my daughter was abducted, and I still cannot find her,” Nur Ali said. “I want to know at least whether my daughter is alive.” He appealed to the government to rescue her quickly and return her to the family.

The accused could not be reached for comment. Their personal numbers were found switched off when called several times. They are said to be in hiding.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Mridul Hasan Tarafdar, investigation officer of the case, said efforts are on to arrest the accused. He said the victim’s whereabouts are known. He is hopeful that she can be rescued and the accused arrested soon.

Sohel Rana, officer-in-charge (OC) of Madhabpur Police Station, said police are active in rescuing the girl and arresting the accused.
