Police seek 10-day remand for Diamond World MD

Police have sought a 10-day remand for Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala in an attempted murder case filed over a shooting during the anti-discrimination student movement in Uttara in 2024.

Investigation Officer and Sub-Inspector Sumon Mia of Uttara West Police Station filed two separate applications with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday (October 21). A hearing was scheduled for the afternoon.

State lawyer Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon said Agarwala would be produced before the court after completing a one-day remand in a case filed with Gulshan Police Station. The court would then hear petitions seeking to show him arrested in the Uttara case and place him on remand.

Agarwala was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion on September 3, 2024, following the fall of the Awami League government. He was released on bail on October 1, 2025. On October 19 this year, he was arrested from Banani in a money laundering case, according to the report.

The attempted murder case was filed by Abdul Jabbar on March 27, 2025. According to the complaint, Jabbar was shot in front of BNS Centre on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Uttara around noon on August 5, 2024, the final day of the anti-discrimination student movement. He remained under hospital treatment until September 26 that year.
