Indian authorities have issued an eviction notice directing the historic Race Course Mosque near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi to be vacated within six days, describing it as an unauthorised structure.

The Land and Development Office issued the notice on Monday (October 19), according to Indian media reports. The move follows the disconnection of the mosque’s electricity and water supplies on October 7.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has sought the intervention of Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to protect the mosque and its adjacent graveyard, urging authorities to halt demolition until the legal dispute is resolved.

Meanwhile, mosque imam Mohammad Harun accused the Delhi Waqf Board of failing to take effective action despite repeated appeals. The authorities maintain that the mosque stands on government land, while questions remain over its heritage status.
