The United States has revoked more than 300,000 visas since President Donald Trump began his second term in January 2025, as his administration intensifies its immigration crackdown, according to Reuters on Tuesday (October 20).
The US State Department said the cancellations targeted foreign nationals involved in criminal activities, visa fraud or conduct considered a threat to national security. The latest figure marks a sharp increase from more than 175,000 visa revocations reported in August.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the administration had revoked visas at a faster pace than any previous administration. Officials said the government would continue enforcing immigration laws and protecting national security.
However, rights advocates have raised concerns about due process, freedom of expression and stricter scrutiny of immigrants. They have also criticised visa revocations involving foreign protesters and individuals over their social media comments.
The latest figures come amid broader efforts by the Trump administration to tighten immigration controls and expand social media screening for visa applicants.
