Turkey’s parliament will review and vote on the Mecca pact before any decision is made to deploy Turkish troops abroad, according to Al Jazeera on Wednesday (October 21).
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has submitted the pact to the parliament speaker, who will refer it to the foreign affairs committee for discussion before it goes to the full parliament for a vote.
According to Al Jazeera correspondent Resul Serdar Atas, the pact requires a simple majority of lawmakers present for ratification. The ruling party and its allies already hold a parliamentary majority.
However, ratifying the pact would not automatically authorise military deployment. A separate bill would be required for parliament to approve sending Turkish armed forces abroad, making troop deployment a distinct second stage of the process.
