Observer Online Report
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-14 has arrested two absconding suspects, including the alleged mastermind, in connection with the abduction and murder of a 14-year-old auto-van driver in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail over the theft of his vehicle.
The victim was identified as Sabuj went missing on September 26 after leaving home with his auto-van for work. His family searched for him but failed to find him and filed a general diary (GD) with Sakhipur Police Station on September 27.
On Tuesday morning, RAB-14 recovered the remains of the teenager, including his skull, hair and bones, from a dense forest in Andigram under Baheratail Union in Sakhipur. His shirt and sandals were also recovered from the spot.
The arrested suspects were identified as Shaheen, 30, the alleged mastermind, and Habib, 35. Habib was arrested from the Basail bus stand area on October 19, while Shaheen was arrested the following morning, according to RAB-14.
Additional DIG Md Masud Rana, commander of RAB-14, disclosed the information at a press briefing held by the CPC-3 Tangail camp on Tuesday afternoon.
He said, two other suspects, Abdul Karim and Rafiqul Islam, had earlier been detained by local people on September 27 in the Suti Palash area of Gopalpur upazila while allegedly moving suspiciously with the stolen auto-van. They were later handed over to police. Habib and Shaheen allegedly fled at the time.
The victim's father subsequently filed a case with Sakhipur Police Station on October 15 under Sections 7 and 30 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000.
According to RAB-14, its Tangail camp launched a covert investigation after Sabuj went missing. Acting on intelligence and information obtained through modern technology, the team arrested Habib around 3:00 PM on October 19. His interrogation helped investigators identify Shaheen's whereabouts and locate the area where the victim's remains had been concealed.
An initial search of the forest was unsuccessful due to darkness and dense vegetation. RAB later arrested Shaheen at around 8:00 AM on Tuesday and recovered the remains based on information he provided.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Sabuj was allegedly abducted and killed to steal his auto-van, RAB officials said.
Habib has been handed over to Sakhipur Police Station, while the process of handing over Shaheen was underway following his arrest and the recovery of evidence, the officials added.
