FIFA has banned Egyptian footballer Mostafa Ziko for five matches for allegedly insulting the referee after Egypt’s 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the World Cup round of 16 on July 7.
Egypt coach Hossam Hassan also criticised the refereeing, claiming wrong decisions cost his team the match. Argentina scored three goals in the final 14 minutes after trailing by two.
The sanctions could affect Egypt’s preparations for November’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Malawi.
