Following the resignation of Dhaka-6 Member of Parliament Ishraque Hossain from his cabinet post as State Minister for Liberation War Affairs, his wife Barrister Nusrat Khan posted a notable quotation on social media regarding the nature of power.

The quote, attributed to American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., was shared on Nusrat Khan's verified Facebook page on Monday (October 19).

"Power properly understood is nothing but the ability to achieve purpose. It is the strength required to bring about social, political and economic change," the post read.

Barrister Nusrat Khan attached a photograph of Ishraque Hossain alongside the quotation.

The quote originally forms part of Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous address titled "Where Do We Go from Here?", delivered at the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 16, 1967.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, Ishraque Hossain officially announced his resignation from the cabinet during a press conference at the National Press Club.

Speaking at the briefing, Ishraque stated that he decided to step down after discussions with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to ensure that his actions would not cause embarrassment to the party or the government, nor overshadow the administration's primary development initiatives.
