At least one person was killed and 15 others injured in Ukrainian drone attacks targeting oil facilities, logistics operations and data centres in St Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region of Russia on Sunday, local authorities said.
St Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov reported fires at the city's oil terminal, an oil depot and industrial warehouses following the strikes.
Russian e-commerce company Ozon said a fire broke out at its logistics hub in St Petersburg, while technology company VK reported a drone attack on its data centre in the Leningrad region. VK said its services remained available to users despite the incident.
Ukrainian drone manufacturer Fire Point said the Ukrainian military had struck a VK data centre near St Petersburg.
Meanwhile, Russia's Defence Ministry said air defence systems had intercepted 1,015 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions overnight.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia would continue responding to Ukrainian attacks with large-scale strikes, according to the TASS news agency. Responding to a question about Moscow's potential reaction to the attack on St Petersburg, he said Kyiv's resistance would not alter the course of events.
