Goa will host the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 mini-auction on December 16, marking the return of the player auction to India after three consecutive editions were held overseas, according to Indian media reports.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the date to Hindustan Times on Saturday, saying the auction would take place on December 16.

The auctions for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons were held outside India, in Dubai, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, respectively. The upcoming auction will bring the event back to Indian soil.

However, the scheduled auction date coincides with the second ODI of India's series against Sri Lanka, which is expected to be played in Bengaluru. The first match is scheduled for Delhi, while Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium is set to host the final ODI.

Meanwhile, the 10 IPL franchises have been asked to submit their final lists of retained and released players by November 15 as they begin preparations for the 2027 season.

The BCCI is also considering the future of the much-debated Impact Player rule. The issue was reportedly discussed at a recent meeting of the IPL Governing Council, although no final decision has been announced on whether the rule will remain in place next season.

The availability of Australian players for the 2027 IPL has also emerged as a concern because of Australia's busy international schedule. The team is due to play a five-Test series in India before travelling to England for the Ashes. Australia and England are also scheduled to play a special 150th-anniversary Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from March 11 to 15, potentially involving leading players such as Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

As a result, the availability of Australia's leading cricketers throughout the IPL season remains uncertain.

Franchises are also making changes to their squads ahead of the auction. Left-arm pacer T Natarajan has moved from Delhi Capitals to Sunrisers Hyderabad, with his revised contract valued at Rs 5 crore. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have signed spinner Zeeshan Ansari for Rs 40 lakh.

Earlier, after the conclusion of the 2026 IPL season, Rishabh Pant moved from Lucknow Super Giants to Delhi Capitals, with Kuldeep Yadav also joining Delhi. Lucknow finished at the bottom of the points table following a disappointing campaign, and Pant stepped down as captain a few days later.

With the December 16 auction approaching, franchises are preparing to reshape their squads, while decisions on player retention, the Impact Player rule and the availability of Australian stars remain key issues ahead of IPL 2027.
