Devotees from across Bangladesh and beyond continue to flock to Chheuriya’s Lalon Akhra Bari, drawn by the timeless songs and spiritual philosophy of mystic bard Lalon Shah.

Taking the stage at the shrine, folk singer Beauty shared her deep connection with Lalon’s music, expressing her wish to carry his teachings within herself and spread them to audiences through song.

“Millions of devotees and followers come here from near and far, drawn by their love for Lalon Shah and the Supreme Being. Please pray for me so that I can embrace Lalon Shah’s teachings and convey his message to people through my songs,” she said.

Beauty described performing at Lalon Akhra Bari in Chheuriya as a uniquely moving experience. She said she gets the opportunity to visit the shrine around this time every year, but the atmosphere of its musical gatherings holds a special place in her heart.

“I come here around this time every year. Somehow, I feel that nowhere else have I found a musical atmosphere quite like the one at Lalon Academy,” she said.

Spreading Lalon’s philosophy through music

Lalon’s songs are an enduring part of Bengal’s rich folk music heritage. His compositions explore human identity, caste-based discrimination, spiritual quest and the essence of humanity, transcending social and religious boundaries.

For Beauty, performing his songs is more than a musical pursuit. It is a way to preserve his legacy and bring his philosophy to a wider audience.

Her performance at Lalon Akhra Bari thus became an expression of her devotion to the mystic poet’s works and ideals, resonating with audiences gathered for the commemorative festivities.

The gathering has transformed the shrine into a vibrant meeting ground for folk culture, bringing together visitors from different parts of the country, mystics, Baul practitioners and performers.

Through Beauty’s voice, Lalon’s songs once again demonstrated their enduring appeal, affirming that the mystic bard’s message continues to transcend generations and changing times.
