Barcelona strengthened their position at the top of La Liga with a dramatic 5-2 victory over Real Betis in a seven-goal thriller. Catalan forward Lamine Yamal once again grabbed attention with a stunning long-range strike just nine days before the Ballon d’Or announcement.
Rodri, who scored his first goal for the club, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo also found the net. The victory marked Barcelona’s 11th consecutive win across all competitions this season under coach Hansi Flick.
The match burst into life with end-to-end action from the start at Betis’ home ground, Estadio La Cartuja, on Saturday (October 17).
Yamal put Barcelona ahead in the 10th minute, dribbling past an opposing defender outside the penalty area before unleashing a powerful long-range shot.
Betis levelled 17 minutes later when Valentin Gomez headed home a cross from Pablo Fornals to make it 1-1.
Towards the end of the first half, Rodri, who joined Barcelona from Manchester City this summer, restored the Catalan side’s lead with a superb header from Fermin Lopez’s corner. It was his first goal in a Barcelona shirt.
Just before half-time, the hosts were left frustrated when Giovanni Lo Celso’s superb volley was ruled out for handball.
