Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir, BPM, has said Durga Puja is being celebrated peacefully at more than 33,000 mandaps across the country.

“With everyone’s joint efforts, worship is going on peacefully at over 33,000 puja mandaps across the country,” he said. “This has been possible through coordination with the puja committees. They are helping our law enforcement agencies.”

He said the puja will be celebrated smoothly and beautifully until the immersion of the idols.

The IGP said this while talking to reporters after visiting the security arrangements for Durga Puja at Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital on Saturday (October 17) evening.

He said some people are trying to spread confusion centering on the puja. The public must be aware of rumors. Like Goddess Durga, everyone must keep fighting against evil forces, he said.

“Whatever our religion, opinion or colour, this country belongs to us,” the IGP said. “Our aim is to uproot all evil forces and build a happy, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.”

The police chief said police had no activities for five to seven days after August 5. No one was safe then, and everyone was anxious. Robbery, mugging, dacoity and many other incidents took place. “With your cooperation, Bangladesh Police has bounced back from that situation,” he said.

He hoped that by removing all evil forces, injustice and discrimination, the country would uphold its independence and sovereignty and improve people’s living standards.

Puja Udjapan Parishad leaders thanked the police. They said police had covered all puja mandaps with a security blanket. As a result, the puja is being celebrated safely.

Senior police officials and Puja Udjapan Parishad leaders were present.
