Jake Fraser-McGurk returned to his explosive best, smashing a 14-ball half-century to set a new record for the fastest fifty across all formats of Australian domestic cricket.
The 24-year-old South Australian opener unleashed his power-hitting against Queensland in the Australian One-Day Cup at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide, scoring a blistering 122 off just 63 balls, including 10 fours and nine sixes.
After reaching his half-century in 14 deliveries, Fraser-McGurk brought up his century in just 49 balls.
He set the tone early, plundering 22 runs in the second over and another 17 in the fourth. In the sixth over, he smashed Hayden Kerr for a six and a four to complete his record-breaking fifty.
In doing so, Fraser-McGurk bettered his own previous List A record of an 18-ball half-century, scored against Tasmania in 2023. His latest effort is also joint-fourth fastest in List A cricket, while the world record for the fastest fifty in the format remains with Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who reached the milestone in 11 balls.
Fraser-McGurk had previously grabbed global attention in 2023 by smashing a 29-ball century in List A cricket, setting a world record for the fastest hundred in the format.
His latest assault helped South Australia pile up a formidable 397 for seven in their allotted 50 overs. Nathan McSweeney contributed a superb 106, while Jake Lehmann added 58 to complement Fraser-McGurk's century.
Queensland struggled in reply and were bowled out for 271, handing South Australia a commanding 126-run victory.
Fraser-McGurk's record-breaking innings once again underlined his reputation as one of Australia's most destructive young batters in limited-overs cricket.
