Abhijit Dipke, chief of India's Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), was detained again on Friday afternoon, shortly before he was scheduled to lead a flag-hoisting programme in Delhi.

According to the online edition of Anandabazar Patrika, Dipke was detained from his residence shortly before the programme, titled ‘Hoist the Tricolour’, was due to begin at 5PM at Central Park in Connaught Place. Neha Borak was also detained near Jantar Mantar.

Dipke had called the programme to protest the arrests of party members Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das. A large police contingent surrounded his residence in Delhi ahead of the planned gathering.

He was previously detained last Saturday before joining a CJP programme at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He was reportedly taken into custody from an aircraft shortly after it landed in Delhi from Mumbai.

On Thursday, Delhi Police warned that strict action would be taken if four or more people gathered in the Connaught Place area in violation of prohibitory orders under Section 163.

However, Delhi Police said on Friday that 11 people had been permitted to enter Connaught Place carrying the national flag. It remained unclear whether Dipke was among those granted permission.
