The Special Response Battalion (SRB)-3 has arrested seven members of a question paper leakage syndicate involved in leaking recruitment examination papers of the Department of Youth Development.
A large number of admit cards, stamps and bank cheques were recovered from their possession. Among the arrestees are employees of the Department of Environment and the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
SRB-3 Commander Lt Col Faizul Arefin disclosed the information at a press conference at the agency’s media centre in Karwan Bazar on Friday (October 16).
The arrested individuals are NBR office assistant Nur Mohammad, NBR computer operator Jahangir, Ministry of Defence office assistant Asad, Department of Environment data entry operator Rubel, private-sector employee SM Imdadul Islam Emad, Mofizur alias Rafi, and Hasinur Rahman Sujon.
According to the SRB, the syndicate had been deceiving candidates through WhatsApp using fake identities and supplying question papers through the messaging platform. In exchange, they charged candidates between Tk 8 lakh and Tk 10 lakh.
The agency also said Nur Mohammad, an office assistant at the NBR, received the question paper early in the morning before the examination began on October 10. He then passed it on to the other members of the syndicate.
The SRB said the group had been involved in question paper leaks for four to five years and primarily operated as a second-tier link in the network.
Earlier, on Saturday, candidates staged protests by blocking roads in different parts of Dhaka over the alleged question paper leak in the Department of Youth Development recruitment examination.
Later that day, the Ministry of Youth and Sports formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident.
