Import and export activities between Bangladesh and India through Akhaura land port will remain suspended for seven days on October 17-21 and October 25-26 on the occasion of Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja.
The decision was communicated in a letter sent by the Indo-Bangla Exporters-Importers Communication Centre in Agartala to the superintendent of customs at Agartala land port on October 15. Copies of the letter were also sent to relevant authorities and business associations in Bangladesh.
According to the letter, trade activities will remain suspended for five days from October 17 to 21 for Durga Puja. The port will reopen for regular commercial operations from October 22 to 24 before closing again on October 25 and 26 for Lakshmi Puja. Regular operations are scheduled to resume on October 27.
Copies of the letter were sent to the manager of the Land Ports Authority of India at Agartala land port, the president and secretary of the Akhaura Export-Import Association and the Akhaura C&F Agents Association, as well as officials of the Plant Quarantine Station at Agartala Integrated Check Post.
Akhaura C&F Agents Association President Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the closure, saying fish exports had also remained suspended on Friday. He added that all traders had been informed of the decision.
