Water Resources Minister Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anee has said conspiracies continue even after the national election, urging everyone to remain alert to protect communal harmony and peace.
He made the remarks at a special law and order meeting ahead of Durga Puja at the Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner's office on Thursday evening (October 15).
Recalling Mahatma Gandhi's 1946 visit to greater Noakhali, the minister said Gandhi had played an important role in promoting harmony between Hindus and Muslims.
Anee warned that attempts to create unrest were being made both at home and abroad. He urged everyone to take responsibility for maintaining peace.
Emphasising security at puja mandaps, he called for special night patrols, deployment of Ansar members at every venue and installation of CCTV cameras where necessary.
The meeting was chaired by Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan and attended by police officials, political leaders and representatives of the Hindu community.
