US President Donald Trump has backed down from plans to livestream the execution of former US Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan following widespread criticism of the proposal.
The execution is scheduled for December 3 by firing squad at Fort Hood, Texas. Hasan was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in a 2009 shooting at the military base.
The plan to broadcast the execution faced criticism from lawmakers, religious leaders and other observers, who warned that it could turn the execution into a public spectacle and provide propaganda material for extremist groups.
The execution is expected to proceed as scheduled, but without a livestream. The reversal follows growing opposition to the proposed broadcast.
