A station master and a ticket collector were injured in an attack at Brahmanbaria Railway Station on Thursday afternoon after a ticketless passenger was detained, sparking panic among railway staff.

According to police and station employees, ticket collector Sanjit Mandal intercepted a passenger arriving on the Dhaka-bound Chittagong-bound ‘Mahanagar Prabhati’ train on Thursday morning for traveling without a ticket. An altercation ensued, prompting Sanjit to escort the passenger to the station's police outpost.

Upon receiving a telephone call from the detained passenger—who identified himself as a student of Jagannath University—a group of 10 to 12 individuals gathered at the outpost. Sub-Inspector (SI) Shah Alam Miah, in-charge of the police outpost, mediated the dispute and released the passenger.

However, around 12:00 PM, the passenger returned with 8 to 10 associates and launched an attack on Sanjit Mandal outside the station master's office. When Acting Station Master Sakil Jahan stepped in to protect Sanjit, he was also assaulted by the group.

"The ticket collector was beaten simply for catching a ticketless passenger," Acting Station Master Sakil Jahan said. "When I went to save him, I was also attacked. It was a planned assault. How can ticket collectors perform their duties under such conditions? Fear and panic have gripped the staff. We are lodging a formal complaint with the police station."

SI Md Shah Alam Miah, in-charge of Brahmanbaria Railway Police Outpost, confirmed the incident, stating, "In the morning, I resolved the dispute after the ticketless passenger brought a group of people. However, they returned in the afternoon and assaulted the two employees. Legal action will be taken upon receiving an official complaint."
