The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is continuing legal and diplomatic efforts to repatriate former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed from the United Arab Emirates, but no specific timeline has been set for his return.
ACC Director General Mohammad Nazmul Hasan said the process involved the Home Ministry and the Foreign Ministry, with the relevant authorities maintaining regular communication.
He made the remarks while responding to journalists at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha on Thursday (October 15).
The ACC previously forwarded case documents, arrest warrants, court orders and investigation-related records to the Home Ministry to facilitate Benazir’s repatriation.
On July 21, the commission said Dubai Police had sought clarification on several issues, including case documents, before proceeding with the process. The ACC did not disclose the specific details of the queries.
Media reports later said Benazir had been released on bail in Dubai. On August 2, the ACC said it had no detailed information about the grounds for his release.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed subsequently said the government had appointed a legal firm in Dubai to seek cancellation of his bail.
The ACC said the repatriation process remained ongoing and that further information would be shared if new developments emerged.
