A street in New York City’s Queens borough has been named after the popular superhero Spider-Man, celebrating the character’s long-standing connection with the Forest Hills neighbourhood.
A new street sign reading “Spider-Man Way” has been installed at the intersection of Ascan Avenue and Ingram Street. The name honours the fictional address of Peter Parker, the character behind Spider-Man, who lived at 20 Ingram Street in the comics.
Spider-Man first appeared in comics in 1962. After several issues, the character’s home was revealed to be in Forest Hills. In 1989, his address was identified as 20 Ingram Street.
The street naming ceremony was held on Monday, October 13, drawing crowds of superhero fans.
New York State Assemblyman Sam Berger highlighted Spider-Man’s connection with Queens, particularly Forest Hills, at the event.
“For decades, Spider-Man has been closely associated with Queens, especially Forest Hills. We want to be like the heroes we see rushing into danger,” he said.
