Veteran actress Khaleda Akter Kalpana is recovering from a viral illness after spending 13 days in hospital in Dhaka.
Her condition has improved, and she may return home later this week.
The actress is receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital's Moghbazar area, according to Imran Haso, an executive committee member of the Actors' Association.
Imran and the association's law and welfare secretary, Suchona Shikder, visited her on Monday (October 12).
Imran said Kalpana's condition was critical during the initial stage of her illness. She was unable to speak for four to five days but has since made significant progress.
He said the actress was happy to see her fellow artistes and sought prayers for her recovery.
“Artistes are not just colleagues; they are also part of one another's families. Standing beside each other in good times and bad is both our responsibility and a bond of affection,” Imran said.
He added that the Actors' Association had always supported artistes and would continue to do so.
Kalpana made her film debut in the mid-1980s and later established herself in supporting roles. She became particularly well known for portraying mothers, earning a lasting place in the hearts of audiences through her performances in numerous films.
She is no longer a regular presence on screen but occasionally acts in television dramas when her health permits. Her latest big-screen appearance was in the film Tosnos.
