Observer Online Report

Streaming platform Hulu has ordered a reboot of the popular science-fiction series The X-Files from filmmaker Ryan Coogler, with Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel set to star in the new series.

According to reports of Variety published on Tuesday (October 13), the reboot will follow two highly decorated but contrasting FBI agents who develop an unexpected bond after being assigned to a long-shuttered division investigating unexplained phenomena.

Coogler, known for directing Black Panther and Sinners, wrote, directed and executive-produced the pilot. Jennifer Yale will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while original series creator Chris Carter is also attached as an executive producer.

The new series will introduce different characters rather than reprise the roles of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, originally played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Editorial note: I could not verify a separate report that the reboot’s promotional campaign has been finalised. The confirmed latest development is Hulu’s series order, so the headline above reflects the verified news.
