Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader Hasanul Haq Inu has appealed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking acquittal from his 10-year prison sentence in a crimes against humanity case linked to the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July uprising.
Inu filed the appeal on Wednesday (October 14), challenging the sentence handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal.
Earlier, the tribunal’s prosecution appealed, seeking the death penalty instead of the 10-year prison term, arguing that the punishment was inadequate given the gravity of the offences.
The prosecution alleged that Inu endorsed Sheikh Hasina’s directives to suppress the student-led mass uprising and was involved in incitement and conspiracy linked to the killings.
Inu’s lawyers, however, maintained that he was not involved in the killings and sought his acquittal, arguing that he should not be held criminally liable.
